Lower School at Cherry Hills Christian School

Christ-Centered Learning. Academic Excellence. Lasting Impact.

The elementary years are foundational in a child’s academic, spiritual, social, and emotional development. At Cherry Hills Christian School, a leading private Christian elementary school in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, students are challenged to grow as learners, followers of Christ, and future leaders.

Through rigorous academics, intentional faith formation, and meaningful relationships, our Christian elementary school helps students develop the knowledge, character, and confidence needed for success in Middle School and beyond. Our Lower School program combines academic excellence with a Christ-centered approach that helps children discover God’s truth, develop a biblical worldview, and pursue their God-given potential.

Every lesson, relationship, and opportunity is intentionally designed to help students build the foundation they need to think biblically, live faithfully, and lead courageously.

Our Approach

Academic Excellence Through a Biblical Worldview

At CHC, faith and learning are intentionally integrated throughout the school day. We believe students learn best when they are actively engaged, appropriately challenged, and supported by teachers who know them well.

Our experienced faculty create engaging learning experiences that encourage curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Through meaningful instruction and strong relationships, students develop confidence as learners while growing in their faith and character. The result is a learning environment where students pursue excellence academically while strengthening the values and habits that will serve them throughout life.

Academic Excellence

Building a Strong Foundation for Future Success

Academic excellence begins with strong foundations. Our Lower School curriculum equips students to become skilled readers, writers, communicators, problem-solvers, and critical thinkers while preparing them for continued success in Middle School and beyond.

Literacy

Students develop strong reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through explicit, research-based instruction and rich literary experiences.

Grades K–2

Using Collaborative Classroom’s Being a Reader program, students build foundational literacy skills through phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, fluency, and comprehension.

Grades 3–5

As students grow, they transition from mastering foundational skills to developing deeper comprehension, analysis, writing, and independent thinking.

Writing

Students progress from composing simple sentences and narratives to developing organized writing across multiple genres, supported by evidence, strong reasoning, and effective communication.

Mathematics

Using Into Math, students develop conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and confidence in applying mathematical concepts to real-world situations.

Science

Students explore God’s creation through inquiry-based science experiences that encourage observation, experimentation, problem-solving, and engineering design.

Social Studies

Students investigate history, geography, government, economics, and citizenship while developing a deeper understanding of their role in God’s world. Fourth-grade students engage in an in-depth study of Colorado history and heritage.

Bible

Bible instruction is foundational to the Lower School experience. Through the study of Scripture, students grow in biblical knowledge, Christian character, and their understanding of God’s plan and purpose for their lives.

Handwriting

Students build strong handwriting habits through intentional instruction in print and cursive writing, supporting both communication and overall academic development.

Faith Formation

Growing in Faith and Character

At Cherry Hills Christian School, we believe spiritual growth is just as important as academic growth.

Throughout the Lower School years, students learn to apply biblical truth to their relationships, choices, learning, and daily lives. Christian values are reinforced through Bible classes, chapel, prayer, worship, service opportunities, and authentic classroom conversations.

Each grade level partners with a designated mission or ministry opportunity, giving students hands-on experiences that help them understand the importance of serving others and living out their faith.

Our goal is for students not only to know God’s Word, but to understand how it shapes the way they think, live, and serve.

Small Class Sizes. Big Opportunities.

We believe every child deserves to be known, encouraged, and challenged.

That’s why Lower School classes are capped at 22 students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 and 24 students in Grades 4–5. Teaching assistants and parent volunteers provide additional support, allowing teachers to build meaningful relationships with students and provide the attention and guidance they need to grow.

Because our teachers know their students well, they can recognize strengths, address challenges, and provide the support and encouragement that helps each child thrive academically, socially, and spiritually.

Discovering Interests. Developing Interests.

Learning extends beyond the core classroom experience.

Lower School students have opportunities to explore a wide range of interests through art, music, STEM, technology, physical education, and team-building experiences. Before- and after-school clubs provide additional opportunities for students to pursue their interests, build friendships, and discover new passions.

Whether creating, exploring, competing, or collaborating, students are encouraged to develop their talents, grow in confidence, and use their God-given gifts to make a positive impact.

A Safe And Nurturing Environment

A Place to Learn, Grow, and Belong

Students learn best when they feel safe and supported.

CHC maintains a secure campus environment that includes dedicated security personnel, visitor screening procedures, controlled building access, on-site nursing support, and comprehensive safety protocols.

Just as importantly, students experience emotional and relational safety through caring teachers, positive peer relationships, and a culture built on respect, responsibility, and Christ-centered values.

We have been a part of CHC for nine years, and it has been the best decision we have ever made for our family. The teachers are passionate, kind, and engaging. The administrators are organized and have excellent communication. Every aspect of education is centered around Christ. The curriculum is challenging and inspiring. As parents, we have felt included in the CHC community and feel privileged to be a part of such an amazing school.
